Christine (Christie) Shipley
Christine (Christie) Shipley is the mother of five children – three with Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis (Munc13-4) and two unaffected, non-carriers. She works full time at a Southern California grocery company.
Shipley writes: I found the Histiocytosis Association in 1992, two weeks after my second affected child passed away. I had lost two children (Tyler in 1991 and Chase in 1992) in 14 months, and was desperate to find information about this devastating disease that our doctors could tell us nothing about. In 1993, I was given a great opportunity to attend a meeting of the Histiocyte Society, a professional medical organization dedicated to the research and treatment of histiocytic disorders. Since then, I have been an active member of the Association with hopes of helping other families, raising awareness, and aiding research. I have co-founded “Play for a Cure”, an annual coed softball tournament and golf tournament, and have been very fortunate to attend many other wonderful fundraising events to benefit the Association. I have been able assist the Association staff at the Annual Histiocyte Society Meetings since 1993. In 2002, when asked to join the Association Board, I was excited and honored to be able to assist, as a parent, the Association in its goals of finding a cure and supporting many families affected with histiocytosis.
